Advocate & Pray: Archie

ArchieArchie is a rambunctious nine-year-old, full of energy and enthusiasm.  According to his profile, he was left at the hospital gate at two months old, malnourished and sickly.  Now, almost nine years later, Archie is a healthy, smart, and loving boy who is eager to be adopted and have many brothers and sisters to play with.

Archie is listed with No Hands But Ours
China

Since his finding, Archie has spent his entire life in the orphanage and is closest to his caretakers. Reading through his file, it is quite obvious that this little boy holds the hearts of several members of the orphanage staff. He is a clever young man who attends school, although more often than not, he would rather be playing with his friends than working on his studies! Despite his active nature, he does well in school and is in the second grade. Archie likes to sing songs and can recite several poems. Not surprisingly, his favorite subject is PE! His caretakers feel his development and abilities are both age-appropriate and that he would thrive in the right family. Archie had a minor sensitive special need that was corrected with surgery when he was very young.

Advocate & Pray: Louise

louiseLeah brought to my attention this week a couple of girls, including 2-year-old Louise, who are in a sponsorship program called “Sarah’s Covenant Homes.”  Here’s how the website describes SCH:

Children with developmental disabilities and neurological special needs are the most likely to be abandoned and least likely to be adopted children in India. The Lord told me, “Feed My lambs.” I find these overlooked and undernourished (in all senses) lambs languishing in institutional orphanages or hospitals, and bring them home, providing them with love, education, therapy, medical & surgical care, and LIFE in a family-style environment.

SCH provides care for these orphaned or abandoned children in India, and the program is funded completely through donations.  So here’s the good news: If you’re looking for a way to become involved in orphan care, in addition to praying for these children, you can become a sponsor!  Click on the link to Louise’s profile to learn more.

Louise is listed with Sarah’s Covenant Homes
India

Louise is a sweet little girl who has profound deafness and has a cochlear implant. She lives in a foster home with 2 brothers who also have cochlear implants, Nolan and Theo! Louise enjoys riding her trike, going to school, and making funny faces! She is quirky and very funny, and keeps her foster family laughing!

Advocate & Pray: Gabe

GabeGabe’s unique story caught my eye this week.  This fifteen-year-old boy is a member of the Tlingit tribe in Alaska.  According to his profile, Gabe has been through a lot of struggles, including childhood trauma, high-functioning autism, aggressiveness, and impulsive behavior, but through counseling and therapy, he has made great progress both behaviorally and emotionally.  He has three younger birth siblings who have already been adopted with whom he wants to stay in touch when he is adopted himself.

Gabe is listed with Adopt US Kids
USA

Gabe is an articulate, bright young man who earned all A’s on his final report card last spring. Now in tenth grade, Gabe is expected to continue to be a successful student. In a recent interview with his social worker, he talked about some of his interests. He told her, “I love to read and I am good at reading. I like history, math, and science. In society, my strengths are finding new friends even though I am shy at first.” Gabe also talked about discovering how much he enjoys singing once he started attending church with staff and residents of his current group home. Gabe wants to be adopted by a Christian family with whom he can continue his church participation of worship and singing.

Advocate & Pray: Gwendolyn

GwenWhen I was researching children available for adoption this week, Gwendolyn’s face was the first one I saw.  At age 15, Gwen is starting to think about her future, and she wants to become a cosmetologist, anesthetist, or a model.  Gwen needs a family who can guide her as she heads toward her future, and support her as she continues therapy.  According to her profile, she also needs a family who will help her stay in contact with her sister, who is being placed separately.

Advocate & Pray: Quinn

QuinnThis four-year-old boy has such a cute smile!  Quinn is listed as having a “sensitive special need,” but his learning is on track–he is even getting some one-on-one English lessons.  He is curious and polite, and he loves playing outside, as you can see from his picture!

Quinn is listed with No Hands But Ours
China

Quinn, born May 2010, is adored by everyone because of his sweet smile, chubby face, and polite manners. When he sees a caretaker who has been gone for a few days, he will tell them how he missed them.

A curious child, he wants to learn and explore new things, and asks lots of “Why” questions. He often surprises adults by saying something more mature than his age, such as “How come my teacher is not here yet? Maybe she’s sick? Or is visiting her mother?” Whatever he does, he is completely focused, whether it’s a craft, playing with a toy, or listening to a story.

Advocate & Pray: Carmel

CarmelSeven-year-old Carmel’s story caught my eye when I was looking through children listed in the United States.  She has a lot of medical needs and is unable to speak or move by herself.  However, her profile shows that she can interact with her caregivers and respond to music and lights.  Carmel is in need of a special family to care for her needs and give her a loving home!

Carmel is listed with Adopt Us Kids
USA

Carmel is a female child of Caribbean decent and she was born September of 2006. Meet this beautiful young child who has faced unbelievable challenges and obstacles. Despite all of her obstacles Carmel is stable medically and has the ability to respond to her caregivers. Carmel is medically needy and requires 24 hour medical monitoring, which is divided between a parent, a night nursing staff and a school nurse that comes with the school bus to pick her up and remains with her until she arrives back home. She is currently nonverbal and non-ambulatory. Carmel loves music and responds to it with smiles. Carmel can respond to bright lights and can respond to movement in a room. Carmel enjoys toys with lights, music and vibration. Carmel is in need of a family. We are willing train an individual, at no cost, to care for Carmel. She is just a child in need of a loving home.

Advocate & Pray: Dexter

DexterDexter is a precious little boy who has gone through some significant changes during his time in care.  He has lost weight, and his lips are dry and cracked.  He has some limb problems, but is said to be a cheerful, friendly little boy.  Dexter desperately needs a family who can provide him with the care and love that he needs to regain his health and his smile!

Dexter is listed with No Hands But Ours
China

Dexter came into care as an infant, at just two months old. His medical need was determined to be limb differences affecting both his wrists/hands and his weight was a healthy 9.7 lbs.

He was described as baby who was adored by his ayis, had a good appetite, and loved to play while lying on the floor soaking in the sun light. A little man with a ready smile, quick reaction but wee bit shy.

The sparkle in his eyes is fading. He looks tired and frail. He is too weak to keep us with his friends.

The last line of one of his developmental report reads “We hope he can quickly find a home and have a loving father and mother as well as an even healthier and happier childhood.”
