Advocate & Pray: Kenneth

kennethEight-year-old Kenneth is listed as having an urgent medical need. He has a serious heart condition, for which he is unable to receive surgery in China. Kenneth has a loving foster family and is a great student, but he needs a forever family who will be able to provide him with the medical care he needs. Kenneth has a grant available for qualified families, so pray that such a family will come along soon!

Kenneth is listed with No Hands But Ours
China

Kenneth was found when he was 6 months old, and he currently lives with a foster family where he seems very attached. Kenneth’s foster family reports that he attends the local public school near his orphanage. He is an excellent student, and has a 98/99 score in his language class! His classmates and teacher all like him and support him in class. He is also reported to be very good at math. He enjoys playing chess, as well as video games, but he always finishes his homework before he plays!

He did not appear cyanotic or have clubbed fingers when our staff saw him, but we were told he has a hard time when he has a cold or illness, due to his heart. Kenneth desperately needs a family to help him get the heart care he needs to live a long and healthy life.

Advocate & Pray: Darius

DariusDarius is four years old. He is in Illinois, waiting for a local family to adopt him. His profile says that he is playful but sometimes struggles with behavioral problems. Darius is also looking for a family who will help him continue to visit with his siblings, as they will be cared for separately.

Darius is listed with Adopt US Kids

He enjoys dance and music and you will also find him engaging in sports and playing with his blocks and ninja turtles. Darius is an independent little guy and cares for his basic needs. He can be very affectionate and often seeks out attention.

You can provide a stable and loving family structure that allows Darius to thrive. It is very important that the family allows for Darius to continue visits with his siblings as they share a close bond.

Advocate & Pray: Samantha

SamanthaSamantha is an older child who was diagnosed with scoliosis. According to her profile, she has made a lot of progress in her language abilities and her daily life skills, and she has formed close relationships with her caregivers and friends. There is currently grant funding available for Samantha’s adoptive family, so pray with me that her family will find her soon!

Samantha is listed with No Hands But Ours

China

Samantha was 5 years old on admission, cautious to new environment, observed her surroundings with curiosity. Under the excellent care of caregivers and patient guide of teachers, she gradually adjusted to the environment and she has become outgoing and has had good living habits. At the age of 5.5 years, she studied in the kindergarten at our center. She has progressed her language skills in that she could speak sentences of 5-10 words. She had better self-cared ability. She was willing to help to do something as her age appropriate such as cleaning tables, washing small towels. She could play games with her friends. She became more patient and could share things and be humility.

Samantha is outgoing, kind and lovely. She could get along well with others. Sometimes she is stubborn, however so long as you company her and help her release the mood, and encourage and support her, she would be better. Under the care and love of all of us, she grows healthily and happily.

Advocate & Pray: Martin

martinThis week’s featured child is from Watoto Child Care Ministries in Uganda.  This ministry provides children with a home with other children and a house mother, an education, and the opportunity to participate in the Watoto church.  Some of these children come to Watoto with their mothers, but many are orphaned or abandoned by family members who can no longer take care of them.  You can read more about the program here on the Watoto website.

Martin came to Watoto as an infant, after he was found abandoned on a balcony.  He is now almost nine years old and enjoys sports and school.  His profile requests that we pray for Martin to accept Jesus as his Savior soon!

Watoto’s villages, school, and church are funded through donations that enable orphans like Martin to have a home and an education.  So if you’re looking for a way to become involved in orphan care, in addition to praying for these children, you can become a sponsor!  Check out the Watoto sponsorship page to learn more.

Martin is listed with Watoto
Uganda

Martin was 18 months old when he was discovered abandoned on the balcony of a house. This was reported to local authorities and the little boy was taken to Sanyu Babies’ home in Kampala. In July 2008, Martin came to Watoto Child Care Ministries, as he had outgrown the Babies’ home. A devoted housemother has long since made him feel wanted and loved. Martin is also surrounded by the love of his Watoto brothers and sisters in their home. Martin has begun receiving a quality education at the Watoto School, where his favorite activity is Physical Education. He really enjoys a game of soccer after school, though not before doing his share of the household chores. On Sundays at the Watoto Church, Martin enjoys singing and dancing during worship. Please pray for him to soon accept Christ as his Saviour.

Advocate & Pray: Charlesetta

charlieCharlesetta, or Charlie as she prefers to be called, is a social and active twelve-year-old.  She loves singing in church and is looking for a family who will help her learn to control her emotions and work through any problems she has.  Pray that she finds a family who will continue to take her to church and support her as she works through her emotions!

Charlesetta is listed with Adopt US Kids
USA

Funny, hyper, silly, and sassy are how Charlesetta describes herself. Charlie likes to joke and is very social. Miley Cyrus is her favorite musician and she loves to listen to music on her MP3 player. Charlie loves to sing and dance. Volleyball is her favorite sport and she says that she is always ready to try new things. Pizza or pizza rolls, spaghetti and meatballs, and peanut butter and banana sandwiches are her favorite foods. Cauliflower and mushrooms are NOT her favorites! Someday Charlie would like to visit Holiday World and Disney World. Puppies and kittens bring a beautiful smile to little Charlie’s face. Church is something Charlie enjoys, especially if she can sing! Her greatest hope is that a family will love her and help her learn to not feel angry.

Charlie’s final words to her future adoptive family are that she hopes that they will love her and talk her through any problems she might have in life. Charlie will do best in a family who has lots of energy, patience, and unconditional love! Charlie will bring a smile and excitement to a family. If that family is yours, please don’t hesitate!

Where Are They Now?

Where (1)I’ve had a few requests for updates on what’s going on with past Advocate & Pray kids. Tracking down how their stories have progressed can be difficult, but I did my best to do so with some of the kids. I may do another similar post in the future if you guys like this one.

Aris (November 4, 2013) — Aris is no longer visible on the Children’s Hope International website. I emailed someone I had talked to previously and she said that not much is happening in Ethiopia. Several families are stuck in the adoption process, matched but unable to actually bring the children home. They aren’t sure they’ll be able to continue to Ethiopia program. Pray that Aris will be well cared for, whatever happens.

Min Kyo (November 18, 2013) — Min Kyo is no longer listed with Heart Gallery, LA. I don’t know what that means, but hopefully it’s good news.

Sunny (December 2, 2013) — I can’t even find the initial post that mentioned this young lady who was about to turn fourteen and become too old to be adopted from China.

Xiao (December 17, 2013) — I was unable to find Xiao’s listing on the agency website where I originally saw it, but some searching turned her up on the protected photo listing on Rainbow Kids. The information on her profile has not changed since my post a year and a half ago. (If you would like to view Xiao’s profile, you can register for an account with Rainbow Kids.)

Vitalik (January 6, 2014) — In an update on March 3, 2015, I mentioned that a missionary in Ukraine let me know that a friends of her’s adopted Vitalik! You can pray that he is doing well with his new family.

Greta (January 13, 2014) — On March 31, 2014, I posted to say Corine Lucas (one of our readers) posted on Facebook to let me know a family was seeking to adopt Greta. This family is still in process. Updates on the family’s blog are few and far between, but if you’d like to follow their journey, you can at Obedient 2 His Command.

Tristan (January 27, 2014)Tristan’s profile now says it is not available for public viewing. Not sure what that indicates as far as him finding a family…

Angela (February 10, 2014) — Angela is no longer listed with Doorways to Hope.

Candy (February 25, 2014) — Candy was another young lady about to age out of the adoptable age range in China. She was listed on Gladney’s, Asia Waiting Child blog. Beyond that initial blog post, I was unable to find further updates.

Margaret (March 10, 2014) — Margaret was listed with the same agency as Aris, and is likewise no longer listed.

Olexander (March 24, 2014) — Olexander is no longer listed with Doorways to Hope.

Jacques (March 21, 2014) — Now eight years old, Jacques is still listed with AdoptUsKids and has a new profile picture.

Olive (May 5, 2014) — The original post on No Hands But Ours is still available and her profile is still listed with Bringing Hope To Children.

Zack (May 19, 2014) — When I clicked through to the No Hands but Ours post linked to on the TIO post, one bold printed line had been added to the top of the post. Update: My family has found me!

Did you like getting an update on the kids we’ve prayed for? Have you followed any of their stories more closely?

Advocate & Pray: Kyan

KyanThis sweet boy is in need of a special family who can care for his health needs.  TIO volunteer Christine brought Kyan to my attention this week, and he is adorable!  At three years old, Kyan has already undergone heart surgery and still suffers from coronary heart disease and cardiac insufficiency.  Pray with me that he will find a family who will be able to care for his medical needs as well as give him a loving home.

His special needs are listed as CHD (PVA, VSD, ASD), post-op CHD (right B-T shunt operation + PDA ligation), and cardiac insufficiency.  Sweet Kyan has some heart melting eyes! Advocate & Pray: Roberto

RobertoAnother TIO volunteer recently brought it to my attention that March is Trisomy Awareness Month, and she asked if the next featured child could be one who has trisomy (which includes several kinds of disorders that stem from the presence of an extra chromosome, including Down Syndrome).  So I selected today’s featured child, Roberto, because this sweet boy has Down Syndrome as well as autism.  Although nine-year-old Roberto is non-verbal, he is learning sign language and loves to interact with others.  Pray with me that Roberto and the many other children with Down Syndrome and other trisomy disorders will find loving families to care for them!

Roberto is listed with Adopt US Kids
USA

Roberto is a very sweet, affectionate, and fun-loving youth. He enjoys playing with cars, balls, blocks, and computer games. He also loves the outdoors and likes to swim. Roberto helps his foster father work on their property. He spends time playing with cars and trucks and also likes the cows and wants to see them often. Roberto is diagnosed with Down Syndrome and Autism Spectrum Disorder. He is fed primarily with a G-tube and is non-verbal. Roberto receives educational services in school to meet his educational needs. He continues to do well in school and the school assists him to accomplish goals. His teacher reports that he does well in the classroom setting, but will sometimes become frustrated. Roberto is known to be a smart youth who is very determined. He is learning sign language and is improving in communicating with his caregivers and friends. Roberto understands much of what is being said and what is going on around him. He is able to form bonds and is very sociable.

Advocate & Pray: Felicia

FeliciaToday’s child, Felicia, is involved in Sarah’s Covenant Homes sponsorship program (previously featured here).  SCH works with orphaned and abandoned children who have special needs, giving them a home, education, and medical care.  Eleven-year-old Felicia is just learning to stand on her own, and she has a specific need for a wheelchair to provide her with greater mobility.

Because SCH is funded through donations, you can help Felicia get her wheelchair!  Click on the link to Felicia’s profile to learn how, or to learn more about becoming a monthly sponsor.

Felicia is listed with Sarah’s Covenant Homes
India

Felicia is a happy, content girl with an endearing giggle. Though she is non-verbal, she enjoys watching the world around her, and is now learning to stand on her own.  She has made astounding progress from the time she first arrived at SCH!  Felicia enjoys music class and watching colorful educational videos.  She is very ticklish and laughs and giggles when you talk to or tease her.  She has a sweet smile that we never grow tired of seeing.
