In my post, Renewing the Vision, I mentioned an idea of doing a monthly card challenge. While I’m not quite ready to launch the first challenge, I would like to get some opinions, ideas, and help from you!
To begin with, if you know of a missionary working with orphans or an adopting family that would be uplifted by receiving some cards of encouragement, please tell me about them or link to their website/blog. My biggest concern with this idea is actually finding folks to send the letters to.
Second, how do you think this should work? Would you rather write actual notes to these people, or create scripture cards (something like this and this) and bookmarks to be included with one overall letter? Do you think it would make more sense to mail your letters directly to the recipient, or mail them all to me (perhaps with some extra money towards postage if it’s going overseas) and send all of them to the recipient in one package?
Please, share your ideas! This idea has plenty of potential, but it’s also a bit overwhelming to try to figure out.

/ March 13, 2015You have some great ideas already! I think that whether we send them individually or all together depends on where we are sending it…for example, one package with one letter and scripture cards/bookmarks may be a good thing to send to one person, maybe an orphanage director or adopting family or something. I also think it would be cool to send everything to you (and everyone chips in for postage, perhaps $0.75-$1.00 per ounce?) but instead, making cards for a big group of kids somewhere (maybe contact Compassion International, World Vision, an orphanage in some country, etc.) with a goal of maybe 500 cards for those kids, the cards being sent as a group, from us to you, for a group. Does that make sense? You totally don’t have to take my suggestion, it’s just something I thought of.

/ March 13, 2015Your ideas are great, Leah! I love them. 🙂
I’m wondering, though, if we could add some type of online letter or such to this, because there are a lot of adopting families who, for obvious reasons, are not comfortable with putting their physical address out for the public to see, but will instead share their email addresses. So maybe we could look into doing something with Ecards or something like that. Just a thought. 🙂

/ March 13, 2015Those Scripture cards are so cute! 🙂 Hmm, I think that for me, writing letters to people I don’t really know can be a bit challenging – so, what if we did Scripture cards etc but could add little personalized notes/prayers? So they would probably be shorter (someone could make them longer if they wanted) than a letter so it helps take the pressure off of those who struggle with letter writing but will still be personalized? And I think sending them to you might be best, just to ensure we have them all collected etc. 😉 Just ideas!

/ March 15, 2015Well, let’s see. I think actual notes would be cool, but it could be a little odd getting notes from people you don’t know and who don’t know much about you. So I think scripture cards could be a cool idea if no one directly knew the person we were writing too. 🙂
If it’s going overseas it may be worth doing research to find out what would be the cheapest option, and it would also be important to know what’s allowed in the country we’d be sending it to (especially as far as Christianity is concerned). However, a lot of missionaries get mail through their mission board, so it probably wouldn’t be directly overseas too often.
