Advocate & Pray: Nadia

Nadia

Nadia is a Ukrainian orphan brought to our attention by Lizzie.  (You can find her Compassion blog here.)  Lizzie is advocating for Nadia, and we asked her to share Nadia’s story here.

~*~

When I was asked to connect an orphan with a family, I wasn’t sure who to choose.  There are so many children waiting for families.  I was drawn to one girl from the Ukraine.  She stood out to me because she was born without eyes and the most recent photo of her was five years old.

I would like you to meet Nadia!

Nadia 2

She just had her picture taken this week!

Nadia was born on December 10, 2003.  She is blind, has severe intellectual disabilities, and has hydrocephalus.  She lives in an Ukrainian orphanage where she is often left alone in a crib.  Even though she does not do many things like you or I would, I am sure that she can still feel joy.  And what joy it would bring her to have a family!

Advocate & Pray: Olive

OliveOlive is an eight year old girl from China diagnosed with hydrocephalus, or excess fluid in the brain.  This has caused her to have seizures and learning problems, and it is unknown if Olive will require any treatment when she is placed with her family. Despite her health issues, Olive is cheerful and loves playing with her friends.

Olive is listed with No Hands But Ours
China

Olive is a very pretty little girl who is 8 years old. She came into care as an infant, and was diagnosed with hydrocephalus. She, to our knowledge, has not received surgery. Olive’s development has been a bit delayed, but she is an active and happy girl. She loves school, where she is very careful when doing her work. Olive is a social little girl, who always lets her friends go first when they play. Olive likes to sing and dance, and enjoys performing for others.

An update was received at the beginning of April on Olive. She had 3 seizures in 2012, was put on Depakote, and has not had another seizure since. Her balance can be an issue when she runs. She has a learning disability; it takes her longer to retain new information than other kids her age.

Advocate & Pray: Jacques

JacquesJacques’ eager smile caught my eye this week.   He is seven years old and is in Florida, waiting in the foster care system.  He loves to play sports, but struggles with school.  A special consideration for Jacques is his brother, with whom Jacques wants to remain in contact once he finds his forever family.

Jacques is listed with Adopt Us Kids
USA

There is so much to say about Jacques. Jacques has a bubbly personality and he is playful and energetic. This little boy is ready to go outside, play games, and play sports. Jacques would benefit from a structured after school activity program. Jacques requires assistance with special education services, and needs an adoptive parent to be a strong educational advocate for him. Jacques would benefit from a loving family that is ready to help him heal from his past and prepare him for a bright future.

Advocate & Pray: Miroslav

MiroslavSummer2012TwoMiroslav was brought to our attention by site reader McKennaugh. Miroslav’s profile describes him as cheerful and creative, but I’ll let McKennaugh introduce him to you below.

~*~

Miroslav is five years old and he has cerebral palsy. Before he was 2, he lived with his family, but then they left him in the orphanage, where I met him. I got to meet his biological mother, too. She said she was going to leave him at the orphanage for a year where he could get therapies for his cerebral palsy and “good care.” However, we knew he was not receiving any therapy or care. We prayed that his mom would take him back sooner, because we knew a year in that place could destroy a child. Sadly, over a year after I had came back to the US, I found a photo of him online. He was still at the orphanage. His mother had never brought him home. I just received word that Miroslav has become available for adoption. He desperately needs a family. He is so, so sweet. We called him “angel boy.” He had the most innocent, forgiving, loving personality. I don’t know if I have ever met anyone that seemed to have such a pure spirit about them. I can’t even explain it. I am hoping that we can get some people to start sharing his story so he has a chance of getting adopted. Ukraine is having a very hard time right now, and Russia has taken over Crimea. Adoptions in that region have shut down. Miroslav does not reside in Crimea, but there’s no way of telling if time is running out for him, too.

Note from Leah

McKennaugh wrote the guest posts Loving Katia (pt 1) and Loving Katia (pt 2). If you haven’t read that story yet, I encourage you to do so. It’s amazing. McKennaugh’s love and determination made an incredible difference in Katia’s life. Now McKennaugh is asking us to help her share Miroslav’s story in the hopes that he’ll find a miracle of his own.

Advocate & Pray: Margaret

MargaretMargaret, an eight-year-old girl from Ethiopia, caught my attention this week.  Because of her health problems, she is in need of a special family to take her in and give her the care and attention she needs to thrive.

Margaret is listed with Children’s Hope International

Margaret is a great little 8 year old girl.  She is HIV positive and both her parents are deceased.  She was relinquished to the orphanage by her aunt who is no longer able to care for her.  Margaret does not have any other siblings and is in need of a good home.  With medical professionals in the US and HIV medication she can live a wonderfully healthy life.

Leah’s Note

Hello! Leah here. I just wanted to add a special prayer request for orphans in Ethiopia. There is a lot of uncertainty surrounding Ethiopian adoptions right now, including some stuff that is preventing parents who are ready to fly from going to get their kids. Please pray that these issues are resolved and Ethiopia does not close to foreign adoption. Pray for the families in the midst of the process who are facing uncertainty, for the kids who are waiting, and, of course, for Margaret.

Advocate & Pray: Candy

CandyHello there! Leah here taking a turn with the A&P (Advocate & Pray) post this week. Many thanks again to Monica who has been doing a fantastic job with these. If you would also like to help out with TIO, please check out 5 Ways to Help TIO and/or contact me about it. Now, about this week’s A&P child, Candy.

Candy caught my eye for two reasons. The first is, she’s really pretty, don’t you think? Also, my heart goes out to older children waiting to be adopted. So many people are afraid of the baggage they come with and aren’t willing to go out on a limb for them. These kids end up entering the world on their own and are almost always vulnerable to people ready to exploit them. I really hope someone steps forward for Candy before this happens.

Candy is listed with Gladney Center for Adoption
China

Candy is a sweet almost 13 year old girl who needs a  family.  It is urgent she find a family before she ages out on her 14 th birthday.  She is a very beautiful girl with the most precious smile.  She attends  school like other older kids, and takes Chinese, English, Math and art classes. Candy has Osteogenesis Imperfecta. She is an amazing girl who needs the love of a family.

Advocate & Pray: Angela

Angela Angela is currently living in an orphanage in the Ukraine. According to doorwaystohope.org, where Angela is listed, only about 10% of orphans in the Ukraine go on to live a successful life, free from drugs, alcoholism, crime, or suicide.  However, no matter how bad the statistics seem, there is always hope:

As Christians we know that we are called to care for orphans, and it is now agreed that these children thrive best when placed in loving families. In Russia and Ukraine, this was not always the prominent belief. In fact, it has only been in the last several years that the concept of family as the best environment to raise children has been embraced in these countries. Finally, the orphan crisis is being addressed as people band together to find a home for every orphan!

Angela is listed with Doorways to Hope
Ukraine

Angela needs special treatment for a medical condition—her body does not grow properly. Angela is an artist and actor. She loves animals and nature, playing outside and roller skating. Let’s pray that a loving family will adopt Angela soon.
