Advocate & Pray: Monica

A&P MonicaI have to admit that my eye was first drawn to Monica because she shares my name! But once I dug into her profile, I found many other reasons for featuring this twelve-year-old girl. Monica is very close to aging out of the system–according to her profile, there are only 17 months left for a family to get to China to adopt her. She has some physical disabilities, but she is independent, smart, and loves playing piano. Monica also has a grant associated with her agency for qualifying families. Pray with me for Monica’s forever family to be able to find her quickly!

Monica is listed with No Hands But Ours
China

Monica is diagnosed as having meningomyelocele and a deformity of her lower limbs. Madison’s in-China facilitator recently met Monica and said this about her: She had surgery before she was found abandoned. They sent her to Guangzhou for another surgery after she came into care of the orphanage. Monica can walk, but she does need to hold the bar to walk upstairs and downstairs. They put her in a wheelchair when traveling outside for a long distance. Monica is incontinent, but she knows how to take care of herself and changes the diapers on her own.

Monica studies in the orphanage and is quite smart. She can recite several children’s rhymes, sing some children’s songs, and talk about her experiences. She easily adjusts to new environments and new people. Monica can get along well with other kids and cares about her friends. She has good concentration and she likes learning how to play the piano.

Advocate & Pray: Kenneth

kennethEight-year-old Kenneth is listed as having an urgent medical need. He has a serious heart condition, for which he is unable to receive surgery in China. Kenneth has a loving foster family and is a great student, but he needs a forever family who will be able to provide him with the medical care he needs. Kenneth has a grant available for qualified families, so pray that such a family will come along soon!

Kenneth is listed with No Hands But Ours
China

Kenneth was found when he was 6 months old, and he currently lives with a foster family where he seems very attached. Kenneth’s foster family reports that he attends the local public school near his orphanage. He is an excellent student, and has a 98/99 score in his language class! His classmates and teacher all like him and support him in class. He is also reported to be very good at math. He enjoys playing chess, as well as video games, but he always finishes his homework before he plays!

He did not appear cyanotic or have clubbed fingers when our staff saw him, but we were told he has a hard time when he has a cold or illness, due to his heart. Kenneth desperately needs a family to help him get the heart care he needs to live a long and healthy life.

She was willing to help to do something as her age appropriate such as cleaning tables, washing small towels. She could play games with her friends. She became more patient and could share things and be humility.

Advocate & Pray: Roberto

RobertoAnother TIO volunteer recently brought it to my attention that March is Trisomy Awareness Month, and she asked if the next featured child could be one who has trisomy (which includes several kinds of disorders that stem from the presence of an extra chromosome, including Down Syndrome).  So I selected today’s featured child, Roberto, because this sweet boy has Down Syndrome as well as autism.  Although nine-year-old Roberto is non-verbal, he is learning sign language and loves to interact with others.  Pray with me that Roberto and the many other children with Down Syndrome and other trisomy disorders will find loving families to care for them!

Roberto is listed with Adopt US Kids
USA

Roberto is a very sweet, affectionate, and fun-loving youth. He enjoys playing with cars, balls, blocks, and computer games. He also loves the outdoors and likes to swim. Roberto helps his foster father work on their property. He spends time playing with cars and trucks and also likes the cows and wants to see them often. Roberto is diagnosed with Down Syndrome and Autism Spectrum Disorder. He is fed primarily with a G-tube and is non-verbal. Roberto receives educational services in school to meet his educational needs. He continues to do well in school and the school assists him to accomplish goals. His teacher reports that he does well in the classroom setting, but will sometimes become frustrated. Roberto is known to be a smart youth who is very determined. He is learning sign language and is improving in communicating with his caregivers and friends. Roberto understands much of what is being said and what is going on around him. He is able to form bonds and is very sociable.

Advocate & Pray: Kyle

KyleTen-year-old Kyle was a recent participant in a Lifeline camp program in the U.S.  He has some eye defects which make it difficult for him to see, but his profile states that he is social, curious, and loves playing the piano.  During his visit to the U.S., Kyle expressed his deep desire to be adopted into a loving family like the ones he stayed with.  He even studied adoption law so he could know how to be adopted!  Join me in praying for this eager, curious boy to find his forever family.

Kyle is listed with No Hands But Ours
China

Kyle is an active and sweet little boy, who enjoys watching cartoons. He is said to love new things and meeting new people. Kyle’s file states that he has good language expression, is able to greet guests well and is very polite. This sweet child is also said to be a helpful and obedient child who cares about others, often giving his seat up for an adult! What manners!

Please read these comments from some of the families and team members who got to spend time with Kyle at Lifeline’s 2 week Camp: “Kyle is very sweet spirited. Even though we could not speak the same language, he was very proactive about using hand motions, etc. to help me understand and was always so patient. He can also play the piano- how special! He loved getting his face painted during the Fall Festival and loved spending time at Camp Shelby. He was so curious to play on the tanks and to explore.”

“Right after he landed in the U.S., he was social enough to have made friends with two other American kids quickly in the airport. He felt these two boys were so nice and friendly, so he wanted to me translate ‘If I could be adopted, I would want to be adopted into one of their families’ to them.”
