Advocate & Pray: Joyce

Today’s featured child is another sponsored child from Watoto Child Care Ministries in Uganda. This ministry provides children with a home with other children and a house mother, an education, and the opportunity to participate in the Watoto church. Some of these children come to Watoto with their mothers, but many are orphaned or abandoned by family members who can no longer take care of them. You can read more about the program here on the Watoto website.

After the death of Joyce’s parents, her grandmother was unable to care for her and her siblings, so they were brought to Watoto. Through their ministry, Joyce accepted Christ as her Savior, and she loves going to church and reading good books.

Watoto’s villages, school, and church are funded through donations that enable orphans like Joyce to have a home and an education. You can get involved in this orphan care by becoming a sponsor! Check out the Watoto sponsorship page to learn more.

Joyce’s parents both died, leaving Joyce and her siblings in the care of their aged grandmother. Grandma could not meet the basic needs of the children and life was very difficult. Concerned authorities and the local church asked Watoto Child Care Ministries to take the children under their wings. Joyce was brought to a comfortable Watoto Village. A devoted housemother welcomed Joyce to her Watoto Home. Joyce is well cared for and loving Watoto brothers and sisters provide good companionship. Mama really appreciates Joyce’s help around the house. Joyce is grateful to the Lord for all the blessings she enjoys at Watoto and thanks God for her sponsors. A quality education is being given to Joyce at the Watoto School. She is encouraged to become any thing in life she dreams to be. In her spare time, Joyce likes to read good books. On Sundays Joyce attends the Watoto Church, where she loves to praise and worship the Lord. She has accepted Jesus as her personal Lord and Saviour. Please pray for her to continue to develop a deeper relationship with Christ. Thank you so much for your financial support.

Advocate & Pray: Martin

martinThis week’s featured child is from Watoto Child Care Ministries in Uganda.  This ministry provides children with a home with other children and a house mother, an education, and the opportunity to participate in the Watoto church.  Some of these children come to Watoto with their mothers, but many are orphaned or abandoned by family members who can no longer take care of them.  You can read more about the program here on the Watoto website.

Martin came to Watoto as an infant, after he was found abandoned on a balcony.  He is now almost nine years old and enjoys sports and school.  His profile requests that we pray for Martin to accept Jesus as his Savior soon!

Watoto’s villages, school, and church are funded through donations that enable orphans like Martin to have a home and an education.  So if you’re looking for a way to become involved in orphan care, in addition to praying for these children, you can become a sponsor!  Check out the Watoto sponsorship page to learn more.

Martin was 18 months old when he was discovered abandoned on the balcony of a house. This was reported to local authorities and the little boy was taken to Sanyu Babies’ home in Kampala. In July 2008, Martin came to Watoto Child Care Ministries, as he had outgrown the Babies’ home. A devoted housemother has long since made him feel wanted and loved. Martin is also surrounded by the love of his Watoto brothers and sisters in their home. Martin has begun receiving a quality education at the Watoto School, where his favorite activity is Physical Education. He really enjoys a game of soccer after school, though not before doing his share of the household chores. On Sundays at the Watoto Church, Martin enjoys singing and dancing during worship. Please pray for him to soon accept Christ as his Saviour.

Advocate & Pray: Emmanuel

EmmanuelA few weeks ago, the Watoto African children’s choir performed at my (Monica’s) church, and I knew I wanted to feature their sponsorship program in this week’s Advocate & Pray post.  According to the website, “Watoto is a holistic care programme that was initiated as a response to the overwhelming number of orphaned children and vulnerable women in Uganda.  It is positioned to rescue an individual, raise each one as a leader in their chosen sphere of life so that they in turn will rebuild their nation.  The Watoto model involves physical care, medical intervention including HIV/AIDS treatment, education–formal and technical, trauma counselling and spiritual discipleship.”

Most of the children in the program have lost both of their parents and are living with a few other children and houseparents at the Watoto villages in Uganda.  Emmanuel, this week’s Advocate & Pray child, was kidnapped and abandoned at a very young age, and local authorities were unable to find his family.  Watoto provides a safe home, an education, and a family for children like Emmanuel, who have often gone through horrific life events.

Watoto’s villages, school, and church are funded through donations that enable orphans like Emmanuel to have a home and an education.  So if you’re looking for a way to become involved in orphan care, in addition to praying for these children, you can become a sponsor!  Check out the Watoto sponsorship page to learn more.

At the Watoto School, Emmanuel is receiving a quality education. He especially enjoys Literature and Artwork and has dreams of being a teacher in the future. He likes playing soccer with his many friends after school. Emmanuel attends the Watoto Church on Sundays with his family, where he enjoys singing and dancing in Sunday school. Please pray for him to develop a meaningful relationship with the Lord.
